Fauquier Health Northern Virginia Surgical Specialists took on its new name in late 2022. Formerly known as Fauquier Health General Surgery, the new practice offers a wide range of surgical services for patients of all ages and serves patients in Culpeper, Fauquier, and Prince William Counties. Our surgeons are all university trained and board certified in general surgery. Our dedicated surgeons focus on specialties beyond general surgery such as breast surgery, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, hernia repair, and wound care.

Joseph Brown MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with an interest in breast surgery, general surgery, and wound care. He holds certifications in wound care and hyperbaric medicine.
Dr. Brown grew up in Southwestern Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the coal industry as a summer intern and ultimately for several years with engineering firms in Virginia prior to attending medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. He completed surgery residency at the Carilion Hospital System in Roanoke Virginia.
Cynthia Dougherty, MD is a board-certified general surgeon, with special interest in breast surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, hernias, lipomas, skin cancer, cysts, and peritoneal dialysis access.
Dr. Dougherty earned a BA in microbiology and a BA in zoology from Miami University. In addition, she holds a Medical Technologist certification from University of Cincinnati. She attended Medical School and completed her general surgery residency training at the Medical College of Ohio.
Dr. Saint-Preux officially joined the Fauquier Health team in January 2023. Choosing to enter a career into the medical field was an obvious choice for Dr. Saint-Preux. “As a physician I strive every day to develop a deeper understanding of the interaction between health, social, cultural, and environmental issues in our communities. I enjoy working with my patients to ensure they feel educated about the issues they may be facing, what options they have, and what their future path of wellness could look like.” Dr. Saint-Preux is trained in minimally-invasive robotic surgery and has particular interests in hernia repair, colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, colorectal, appendectomy, skin lesions/lipomas, thyroid disease, breast procedures, and more. Dr. Saint-Preux has conducted multiple service trips, including outreach in Haiti to provide health care to under-served populations. Giving back to the community and providing cross-cultural care has led to a greater understanding of the health issues facing our world today.
Dr. Saint-Preux graduated from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2013. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. in 2017. Dr. Saint-Preux then completed his general surgery residency at the Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 2022.
Benjamin Wampler, MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery and hernia repair.
Education and Training
Dr. Wampler has lived in the area his entire life. His father, Dr. Wampler Senior, started the practice in 1963. He completed college at Bridgewater College and then went to medical school in Richmond, VA at the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his training in general surgery at West Virginia University before coming back home to join his fathers’ group.
