Neurology was a natural choice for Dr. Kayal. “I was fascinated with the complexity of neurologic problems, where you have to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to get to the diagnosis.” She has a particular interest in neuromuscular medicine, including diseases of the nerves and muscles. “I did my fellowship in neurophysiology with a focus on electromyography (EMG) — the test that studies the muscles and nerves.” Dr. Kayal enjoys helping patients understand their symptoms and working with them to manage their diseases.
Dr. Kayal received her medical degree from the University of Damascus Faculty of Medicine. After working as a clinical research volunteer in movement disorders at NINDS/NIH, she completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Prince George’s Hospital and completed her residency in neurology at George Washington University Hospital. In 2015, Dr. Kayal completed a neurophysiology fellowship at George Washington University Hospital. Dr. Kayal participated in rotations on the stroke team and in movement disorders at the Cleveland Clinic, as well as a rotation in neuromuscular diseases at Case Western University Hospital.
Dr. Dewan joined the Fauquier Health team in 2020 and brought over 10 years of clinical experience to with him. Dr. Dewan received fellowship training in Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine and has particular interests in Alzheimers, dementia, strokes, migraines and sleeping disorders.
According to Dr. Dewan, consistency and continuous evaluation is key. When asked for a quote that resonates with this line if work, it would be, "If at first you don't succeed try, try again." According to Dr. Dewan, “When we think about goals and our health, there can be times we may fall short of what we would like to achieve to make us healthier. This can consist of a treatment for any particular disease or a personal milestone. When something doesn't work or does not lead to the desired result it should not cause one to give up but instead lead to a realization that the path to success is not always the easiest or the first one.”
Taking a patient focused approach, he enjoys helping his patients understand their condition and aim to enhance their quality of life. Dr. Dewan conducts procedures such as BOTOX for migraines, brain wave studies to help diagnose and manage seizures, nerve conduction studies to help diagnose nerve disorders and sleep Studies.
Dr. Dewan graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1999. He completed his residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin in 2005. Dr. Dewan obtained his board certification in Neurology in 2006 and Sleep Medicine in 2007.
