Joseph Brown MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with an interest in breast surgery, general surgery, and wound care. He holds certifications in wound care and hyperbaric medicine.
Dr. Brown grew up in Southwestern Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the coal industry as a summer intern and ultimately for several years with engineering firms in Virginia prior to attending medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. He completed surgery residency at the Carilion Hospital System in Roanoke Virginia.
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Gordon relocated to the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area where he grew up before ultimately attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate studies. At UNC, he received a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in broadcast journalism and sociology. After sensing a higher calling, Dr. Gordon decided to change his career trajectory and moved to the Washington, DC area where he completed pre-medical studies at Georgetown University, while also working in the education industry.
After four great years at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Dr. Gordon moved to the Sunshine State for general surgery training at the University of South Florida – Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa. It was the breadth of training at USF, the Tampa Bay metropolitan area’s only allopathic general surgery residency that drew him there.
He spent the majority of his clinical time at Tampa General Hospital, a 1,000+ bed teaching hospital in downtown Tampa and the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, burn center, and a comprehensive transplant center. In addition, he rotated at Moffitt Cancer Center, where he gained further exposure to surgical oncology. Lastly, he spent a great deal of time at the region’s two VA hospitals, an experience he feels was especially rewarding in being able to provide care to our nation’s veterans.
