The American College of Rheumatology estimates 88 million people have some form of rheumatic ailment or condition. As a rheumatologist, Dr. Nandini Chhitwal diagnoses and treats a wide variety of disabling diseases. Her specialty areas include: various kinds of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout; auto-immune diseases, such as lupus, Sjogren’s and scleroderma; musculoskeletal pain disorders; and fibromyalgia. And as one of the newest additions to our health system, Dr. Chhitwal hopes to use a multidisciplinary approach to manage her patients in the most comprehensive and effective manner.
Education and Training
Dr. Chhitwal earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in 2004. She then completed her internal medicine internship and residency program at Emory University in Atlanta. She stayed on at Emory University to complete an ACGME accredited fellowship in rheumatology.

Dr. Nandini Chhitwal is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.
Honors and Awards
Among her many honors, Dr. Chhitwal received an outstanding ambulatory clinical care and professionalism physician award from Emory University School of Medicine and Grady Memorial Hospital.
Research
Dr. Chhitwal has conducted research for the Division of Rheumatology at the Emory University School of Medicine. She performed an analysis of the impact of socioeconomic differences in the diagnosis of lupus in patients from two different healthcare systems. This abstract was accepted by the American College of Rheumatology.
Employment
Prior to joining Fauquier Health as a staff physician with Fauquier Health Physician Services in 2009, Dr. Chhitwal was an urgent care clinician with the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Georgia.
Volunteer Experience
Dr. Chhitwal has been on a medical relief trip to Honduras to provide free medical care to the underprivileged. She has also served as a volunteer at a medical relief center in Atlanta geared toward Hurricane Katrina victims.
Personal Interests
Dr. Nandini Chhitwal enjoys cooking, music, movies, nature walks and hiking. She is fluent in English and Hindi.
