Dr. Hodgson and Dr. Majeed take the time to talk each patient through OB/GYN exams, diagnostic testing and treatments so they feel at ease with each visit. Both OB/GYN physicians understand the importance of women’s health issues through all stages of life and are dedicated to providing the highest level of courtesy, compassion and care to each patient. OB/GYN patients are involved with every part of the process and their concerns are addressed at our Fauquier Hospital location in Warrenton, Virginia. Involved patients have a better understanding of what is going on with their bodies and why certain tests and procedures are important. Our OB/GYN physician empowers his patients by giving them a voice and that power translates into comfort in his office.
Dr. Wesley Hodgson knows a thing or two about delivering babies. Prior to joining Fauquier Health, he was a staff physician at a Navy medical training facility that delivered more than 2,000 babies each year. And he also knows a thing or two about communication. During his residency program, he received two outstanding teacher awards and a patient satisfaction award. Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Hodgson understands the importance of women’s health issues, and he is dedicated to providing the highest level of courtesy, compassion and care to each patient.
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 2003, Dr. Hodgson completed the obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Among his many academic honors, Dr. Hodgson received numerous awards during his residency training program, including: Outstanding Teacher Award, Outstanding Teaching Recognition Award, Patient Satisfaction Award, and several awards for outstanding research, case reports and clinical papers. He also served as the Navy Section Chair for the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Junior Fellows.
During his residency program, Dr. Wesley Hodgson presented research at local meetings held at the National Naval Medical Center, and national meetings held at the Armed Forces District of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The focus of much of his research was the efficacy of liquid-based pap smears for cervical cancer screening, and his results were published in Gynecologic Oncology in 2005. He also published several papers prior to residency from research contributing to vaccine development at the National Institutes of Health.
Prior to joining Fauquier Health in 2011 as a private practice physician with Fauquier Health OB/GYN, Dr. Hodgson was on active duty with the Navy for over eight years, and served as an OB/GYN staff physician at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune for four years.
Dr. Wesley Hodgson enjoys spending time with his wife and son. His interests include kayaking, cooking, and the outdoors.
Fully aware that women tend to focus their energies on taking care of others instead of themselves, Dr. Sumiya Majeed says, “I encourage women to take charge of their own health. To do that, they need the right information. I try to share with patients my understanding and knowledge of what is happening in ways they can understand. In fact, I am notorious for my poorly drawn pictures that I use to help them visualize things!” As an obstetrician, she adds, “I want to spend my time keeping women healthy, providing care throughout pregnancy. Delivery is the most rewarding experience I have encountered.”
Dr. Majeed earned her medical degree from the University of the West Indies. After working as a medical intern in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics at Ministry of Health of Trinidad and Tobago, she completed an internship and residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Majeed was awarded Resident of the Year, as well as, AAGL Surgeon of the Year Award at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2010. She is a member of the Fellow American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Medical Spanish.
